Sara Olsher started out doing custom drawings for weddings and now has expanded her line to include artwork for children. Her custom artwork tells a story about her clients--their engagement, their favorite activities, or their love of their pets. The artwork is then incorporated into "Save the Dates", wedding invitations, thank you cards, or a large piece of artwork. The drawings are fun, kind of silly, and really represent the personalities of her clients.
With such a creative background, you would think it would be easy for Sara to make her space fun and funky. But she had a unique challenge, a small space.
"My space is very small, so I needed to make sure that I could take full advantage of every inch!," Sara adds. "I needed my workspace to be functional. I like to write things out by hand, and as a result I end up drowning in paper. I needed to create a workspace where I could cut down on paper," she continues.
To help Sara really maximize the space, she uses dry erase boards and organizes her papers she uses on a frequent bases by creating files and using clip boards.
Because she works 10+ hours a day in her office, everything has a place. Sara has found creative ways to make organization look good. For example, she uses a lot of envelopes, which she keeps on hand for her clients. Instead of leaving them in the white boxes they are sold in, she takes the lids off and turns them on their sides to show the colorful envelopes inside.
Sara really likes a lot of color and her main inspiration comes from blogs she reads online. She feels very inspired when surrounded by bright colors.
When asked what is one piece of office equipment that she couldn't function without, Sara responded:
"Because I do all of my drawings on my computer, the most obvious choice is my computer: a Mac Pro, and my Wacom Tablet. As for organization, I can't live without my "white" boards--these keep my "to do" lists organized. If I had more space, I'd probably add about three more!"
For something fun and quirky in her office and also a great tip, Sara made a frame for her computer screen using plexiglas and patterned paper. The added bonus to having a custom computer screen? You can stick post-it notes on the frame. Sounds like Sara may be on to a new product!
